Performance Work Statement (PWS)

Compressor Service and Maintenance 26 July 2023 C1. Background

The Army Research Directorate for Mechanical Sciences Division currently owns one (1) Sauer High Pressure Gas Booster (Model WP4351) located at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The Sauer High Pressure Gas Booster was purchased under contract W911QX11P0326 in 2011. The equipment is dedicated to delivering high pressure compressed gas to the Spray Combustion Lab (SCRL). Reliable delivery of compressed gas is critical to performing experiments and executing the Government’s mission.

Recently, the compressor developed an oil leak which has increased in severity over time. The oil leak is approaching the point where extended operation is inadvisable due to the possibility of catastrophic failure. The Government requires service on the compressor to return it to a state of proper operation. Further, the Government requires regularly scheduled preventative maintenance support to maximize reliable operation for the remaining service life.

From an inspection of the unit and discussions with the manufacturer, it was determined that the leak is likely coming from an area that necessitates a significant teardown of the machine.
