About this file

This is a Purchase Description for the manufacture of Impulse Cartridge Cups for the Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA). The contractor must produce 10 First Article Test (FAT) units and 28,215 production units of Impulse Cartridge Cups with a coined point, manufactured from aluminum alloy 6061-T6 per drawing 201719312 using coining tooling per drawing 201719314. The material must be cold-finished bar stock per ASTM B211, with dimensions applied prior to the coining operation. The manufactured parts require annealing at 760 degrees F (±10 degrees F) for 2-3 hours, followed by cooling at a rate of 50 degrees F per hour until the temperature drops below 500 degrees F.

Quality acceptance requires that a representative sample of the coined point cups be hydrostatically burst tested using the specified burst fixture (drawing 201719315) and achieve a burst pressure between 1,000 ± 200 PSI at a rate of 100-400 PSI/sec. All deliveries must include material certifications and certificates of conformance per CAAA Form 702-37. The delivery schedule requires FAT units within 6 weeks of contract award, with production quantities delivered in two tranches: 14,000 units at 11 weeks after FAT approval and 14,215 units at 22 weeks after FAT approval, with a final delivery date of December 30, 2026.
