Caisson Ceremonial Breeches

Uniform Requirements Caisson Detachment, 3D U.S. Infantry Regiment “The Old Guard”

Overview

• Riding breeches must have the same look as the ASU (Army Standard Uniform) Dress Blue Pants as described in chapter 16 of AR (Army Regulation) 670-1 and page 22 TOG (The Old Guard) Soldier Handbook

• Fabric material must be breathable and stretchable such as other athletic and competition riding fabrics. This can include nylon, spandex polyester blends, and moisture wicking cotton

• Breeches must be reinforced in the areas where they are in contact with the saddle, such as the seat of the breeches and the inner side of the knees

Embroidering Requirements

• Breeches must have a 1.5-inch gold strip sewn along the outside seam same as the embroidering on ASU Dress Blue Pants

• Thread used must be polyester thread, 40-Weight.

• Thread color must be Gold to match the color of the ASU Dress Blue Pants

• The type of stitching must be reinforced straight stitching.

Belt Loops

• Belt loops must have a width 2.5x1-inches to fit a 1.5-inch belt pictured in the bottom right.

• There must be 7 belt loops placed as pictured in slide 2

• 2 on the front evenly spaced between the center zipper and the outside seam of the breeches

• 2 on the outside seams of the breeches

• 3 evenly spaced across the back of the breeches

Pockets

• Front pockets

• Must be approximately 4.5-inches from the gold embroidered seam

• Must be a minimum of 7 inches in depth.

• Back flaps

• The previous riding breeches had back flaps. The new riding breeches that are the subject of this contract shall have no back flaps.

Waist line

• Front

• Must have a covered zipper from the bottom of the groin area and stop under the belt line.

• Must have one black button centered in the belt line

• Back

• Must have two extra triangles of fabric above the belt line with the peak height of 1.25-inches, so that while sitting in the saddle the waist line appears straight and even on the rider’s back

Reinforced areas

• Reinforced material can be another layer of different fabric or the same fabric, but must be double layered

• The butt and the bottom of the pelvis area of the breeches must have reinforced area covering where the breeches make contact with the saddle

• The inner knees must have an approximately 5.75-inch reinforced oval area where the knees touch the saddle, stirrup leathers, and horse

• The reinforced area may also have gripping material or fabric as long as the breeches still retain the look of the ASU Dress Blues

Ankle seam

• There must be a slit cut along the gold strip from the bottom seam around the ankle to approximately 5.5-inches up the breeches leg.

At the bottom of the slit there should be a small Velcro or similar attachment area so that both sides of the slit can attach to each other and when attached it lies flat and is not noticeable.

• The ankle seam must allow the rider more room than the approximate 6-inch diameter so the rider can maneuver boots and other necessary equipment in and around the breeches
