In accordance with Pursuant to Section 177.25 F.S. and Section 177.40 F.S. - Land Boundaries, Part II Coastal Mapping, the Division of State Lands, Bureau of Survey and Mapping is responsible for maintaining a repository of land records, determining the location of land and water boundaries, protecting the state’s interest in land by clearly delineating and defending the boundaries of state-owned lands and issuing opinions of title and defending the state’s title and ownership interests in property vested in the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund (Governor and Cabinet.)
DEP actively manages a tide station program to monitor water levels and related data along Florida's coastline. DEP maintains a network of tide stations equipped with instruments to measure water levels, and in some cases, wind and barometric pressure. The program involves collecting, analyzing, and managing data from these stations to understand tidal patterns, sea level changes, and storm impacts. The division provides this information to universities conducting crucial research, NOAA for weather forecasting and other critical applications, as well as several private third-party apps used by boaters, sportsmen, and the US Coast Guard.
The Division of State Lands utilizes the SkyView 360 data acquisition system that enables the collection , analysis, reporting and storage of data from remote monitoring locations. SkyView 360 streamlines the data management process. SkyView360 manages data from multiple locations and reduces the need for a localized data management software and data collection hardware.
SkyView 360 is an easy to use, easily accessible and crucial reporting and analysis tool for the tide station program and an important part of Florida's coastal management efforts, providing data for various applications like beach management, storm surge prediction, and research.
