About this file
This is a Description of Intended Single Source Purchase (PUR 7776) filed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Food Safety, Bureau of Laboratories. The agency seeks to procure replacement modular laboratory equipment consisting of five VIDAS Kube units and one VC VIDAS Kube unit from bioMérieux, Inc. The equipment will be used for rapid detection of foodborne pathogens using AOAC-validated methods for Salmonella species, Listeria species, and staphylococcal enterotoxin detection. The posting was made on April 8, 2026, with a deadline for prospective vendors to submit information by April 29, 2026. The advertisement will remain posted for a minimum of 15 business days as required by Florida Statutes. No specific contract term or renewal options are identified in the posting.
The estimated dollar amount is approximately $105,000.00, with an approximate contract amount of $95,241.49. The single-source justification centers on the VIDAS KUBE system being the sole manufacturer-supported successor to the agency's obsolete VIDAS instrument, with full compatibility with existing AOAC-validated methods and proprietary test kits. The current equipment has been designated obsolete by the manufacturer with phased-out maintenance and technical support. The VIDAS KUBE provides expanded analytical throughput, increasing capacity from 60 to 72 concurrent assays, and ensures uninterrupted regulatory, dairy, and Food Emergency Response Network testing compliance without requiring method redevelopment or revalidation. The contact for this procurement is Brittany Harvey at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The Division of Food Safety seeks to purchase the VIDAS KUBE modular immunoassay instrument system for rapid detection of foodborne pathogens using the laboratory’s existing
AOAC validated methods. This equipment purchase includes six (6) VIDAS KUBE modules, the main module includes the operating system computer. The system is an automated immunoassay platform that uses proprietary test kits to perform high throughput analyses, with capacity for 72 concurrent assays. It is a modular instrument system, not a single integrated unit.

Incorporated by Reference: Rule 60A-1.045, F.A.C.
Intended Single Source:
bioMérieux, Inc.
Estimated Dollar Amount:
Approximate Amount up to $105,000.00
Approximate Contract Amount $95,241.49
Justification for single source acquisition (what is necessary and unique about the product, service or source; steps taken to confirm unavailability of competition, as appropriate):
The VIDAS KUBE system is essential to supporting the laboratory’s three accredited AOAC
Official Methods used for the detection of Salmonella species, Listeria species, and staphylococcal enterotoxin in regulatory, dairy, and Food Emergency Response Network
(FERN) samples. These methods represent a significant portion of the biology section’s workload and require uninterrupted instrument compatibility to maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance. The laboratory’s current VIDAS instrument has been designated obsolete by the manufacturer, with maintenance and technical support being phased out. Continued reliance on the existing instrument is not sustainable and poses risk to ongoing regulatory and emergency response testing. The VIDAS KUBE is the sole manufacturer-supported successor system that:
• Maintains full compatibility with the laboratory’s existing AOAC-validated methods and required proprietary test kits.
• Provides the necessary analytical throughput, expanding capacity from 60 to 72 concurrent assays.
• Ensures uninterrupted regulatory dairy, and FERN testing compliance and emergency response capability without requiring method redevelopment or revalidation.
Approved By (names & titles, as appropriate, e.g., requestor, requestor management, information systems, budget, purchasing):

Patricia Hanson, Chief, Bureau of Laboratories, Division of Food Safety
Matthew Curran, Ph.D., Director, Division of Food Safety
Stephanie Bergozza, Purchasing Director, Bureau of General Services
