Mission of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL): INL is under the Under Secretary for Democracy and Human Rights (J) and works to keep Americans safe at home by countering international crime, illegal drugs, and instability abroad. INL helps countries deliver justice and fairness by strengthening their police, courts, and corrections systems. These efforts reduce the amount of crime and illegal drugs reaching U.S. shores.
The International Law Enforcement and Narcotics (INL) Section in the U.S. Embassy in
Tajikistan coordinates and implements law enforcement, border security, justice sector, drug demand reduction, countering trafficking in persons, and counter narcotics technical assistance programs in Tajikistan funded by the Department of State in accordance with an agreement between the U.S. and the Government of Tajikistan (GOT). INL’s strategic goals are to advance reforms in Tajikistan’s law-enforcement and institutions in-line with Embassy Dushanbe’s
Integrated Country Strategy.
INL’s law enforcement reform program supports community policing, police reform efforts and strengthens human rights by improving trust between the police and the community through police-community partnerships. INL’s border security program strengthens Tajikistan’s border security, increases cooperation between the country’s Central Asian neighbors, and promotes partnerships with Afghan counterparts to reduce the trafficking of narcotics and other illicit goods and the resulting illicit financing that fuels terrorist activities around the world.
