About this file
This is a Documented Quote (DQ) from Western Colorado University (WCU) soliciting proposals from professional search firms to assist in hiring a new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs (Provost/VPAA). The solicitation (Bid No. WCU-5497) seeks a search firm to help the university recruit a top-level academic administrator, with proposals due on October 30, 2025, at 5:00 PM MST/MDST. The contract term is anticipated to run from approximately November 21, 2025, to May 21, 2026, with the goal of completing the search and making a hiring recommendation by July 1, 2026. The search firm will be responsible for tasks including refining the leadership profile, advertising the position, building a diverse candidate pool, developing screening instruments, coordinating interviews, conducting background checks, and assisting throughout the selection process.
The university requires the search firm to have performed at least three successful senior-level searches for higher education clients within the past five years, with mandatory qualifications including experience in higher education executive searches, particularly for academic affairs positions. The cost proposal must be a firm, fixed-price that includes all expenses such as travel, lodging, and communication costs, with the university strongly suggesting that general overhead expenses be incorporated into the base fee. Evaluation will be based on the firm's response completeness, capability and experience with higher education searches, personnel qualifications, ability to meet the timeline, and overall service fees. The contract is subject to the availability of state and/or federal funding, with the university reserving the right to terminate the contract if sufficient funds are not received.

For many years, WCU was known for its graduates who became teachers. In 2020-21, WCU forged a unique partnership with the University of Colorado to open new academic programs in Computer Science and Engineering, located in the newly constructed Paul M.
