The NIAAA seeks a contractor to address the present and anticipated future needs of NIAAA’s Medications Development Program for the blind efficacy testing of reference and proprietary compounds in alcohol drinking mice made dependent through repeated cycles of ethanol vapor exposure and withdrawal. The Division of Neuroscience and Behavior’s (DNB) Preclinical Medication Efficacy Testing Program seeks to support this effort and to implement the testing capacity of five (5) compounds per year over the next five (5) years using mechanisms having intellectual property conditions favorable to compound providers when acquiring compounds from industry. This will eliminate a major barrier to testing optimized compounds and will stimulate interest by the pharmaceutical industry in developing high quality, marketable compounds for alcoholism. The data generated will be used in the identification of compounds for further development.
It is anticipated that the effort to be supported will require an estimated 7,384 hours of effort in the base year and 29,536 in four (4) option periods. All qualified organizations are encouraged to respond with a contract proposal.
