About this file
This document is a Factsheet for the National Maritime Heritage Grants Program, which is a federal grant opportunity administered by the National Park Service under the Department of the Interior.
The Factsheet provides guidance on the use of covenants, easements, and memorandums of agreement to protect historic maritime resources that are part of grant-funded projects. It outlines the different types of legal agreements required based on the grant award amount, with minimum durations ranging from 5 years for grants under $50,000 to 25 years for grants over $750,000. The Factsheet also includes contact information for the program and directs applicants to the program website for more details.
The related federal grant opportunity, the FY 2024 National Maritime Heritage Grant Program - Preservation Grants, provides funding for education and preservation projects focused on historic maritime resources. Grants are awarded on a 1:1 matching basis, with total funding split equally between preservation and education projects. Eligible applicants are state governments, and the grant program is authorized under the National Maritime Heritage Act.
