PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1
INSTALLATION
A.
General
Fence shall be installed by mechanics skilled and experienced in erecting fences of this type and in accordance with the Contract Documents.
Paragraphs 1 and 2 may not apply on small fencing runs.
When general ground contour is to be followed, make changes of grade gradually.
Evenly space posts in line of fence a maximum of 10 feet center to center
3. NO top or bottom rail. Tension wire as specified.
Edit to fit Project Requirements. Except atop retaining walls as specified, full specified foundation should be provided. Bolt-on fencing is not acceptable. If it is necessary to install fencing in an existing slab, core drill the existing slab to the full diameter of the specified post foundation and excavate to the specified depth. Fill excavation up to the level of existing slab and finish. B.
Post Foundations
Except atop retaining walls, set posts with concrete post foundations as specified on chart below.
Line Posts concrete foundations shall be 8 inches diameter and 30 inches deep.
Gate, End, & Corner Posts foundations shall be 12 inches in diameter and 40 inches deep.
Hand form the tops of each poured concrete post foundation into domes so that they shed water.
Where fences are incorporated into slabs, measure post foundation depth from top of slab. Extend bottom of slab footing sufficient to allow specified amount of concrete around posts.
c.
At existing slabs, install fence around perimeter of slab.
Fences on retaining walls should have 12 inch long sleeves. Set pipe in sleeves.
C.
Fence
After posts have been permanently positioned and concrete sufficiently cured, install framework, braces, and tension wires.
Stretch fabric by attaching one end to terminal post and supplying sufficient tension to the other end of stretch so that all slack in the fence fabric is removed.
Fasten fabric to line posts with galvanized steel tie wires. Pass ties over one strand of fabric and hook under line post flange.
Place bottom tie to fabric even with the bottom tension wire. Space additional ties equally along the bottom and top tension wire on approximately equal spacing not to exceed 14 inches on center.
c.
Attach fabric to roll formed terminals by weaving fabric into integral lock loops formed in post. Attach fabric to tubular terminals with tension bars and bands.
d.
Hold fabric approximately 1-2 inches above finish grade line.
f.
Securely attach fittings and firmly tighten all nuts.
Delete if gates not required. D.
Manual Gates
Manual Gates shall be square welded swing gate frames with vertical stiffeners that provide for free and easy operation. Swing gate panels over 8’ in length shall have a support wheel mounted to the outside lower corner to support the weight of the gate when it swings. All hinges, latches, wheels, and accessories shall be bolted to the gate panels and posts.
Provide gate latching devices with padlock capabilities. Provide cane bolt to engage sleeve set in concrete at all double gate latching positions.
3.
Align top bar of gates with the fence top.
4.
Gates shall be plumb and on same plane as fence, both vertically and horizontally.
5.
Set gate stops and other catches in concrete.
3.2
CLEANING
Spread dirt from foundation excavations evenly around the surrounding area unless otherwise directed. Leave area free of excess dribbles of concrete, pieces of wire, and other scrap materials. Use a magnet to insure that all loose wire cuttings and hardware has been collected.
