Yuma Border Patrol: Light tower location info.
Attached are maps of the locations of currently deployed light towers/generators and the common possible locations of the Mobile Surveillance System (MSS). Through speaking with the agent who currently preforms the function of fueling the light generators and MSS, these are the distances and quantity of time it takes with maximum deployment of assets:
· 1 Day for Andrade corridor – approximately 40 miles round-trip
· 1 Day for San Luis corridor – approximately 45 miles round-trip
· 1 day for East Desert corridor – approximately 80 miles round-trip
The above numbers are for when maximum number of assets are deployed. This is typically not the case due to service/maintenance of equipment and operational needs. Typical deployment numbers favor a two day cycle for complete refueling (1st day Andrade & partial San Luis, 2nd day remaining San Luis & East Desert).
The time of year and ambient temperature also factor into the fueling schedule of deployed assets. The light generators consume approximately 6 gal of diesel fuel per night in the warmer summer months while consuming approximately 15 gal of fuel in the cooler winter months. The inverse applies to the MSS whereas it consumes approximately 25 gal of diesel fuel per day in the summer and approximately 12 gal of diesel fuel per day in the winter. Due to the size of the fuel tanks of the equipment, light generators cannot operate more than three nights without being refueled in the winter and MSSs cannot operate more than two days without being refueled in the summer.
Additionally there are two backup generators that require refueling once a month due to operating once a week for their maintenance cycle. Both backup generators are on-site and do not require travel outside the Yuma Sector/Yuma Station compound.
