About this file

This is a technical specification document for four wire rope assemblies required by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD). The document details requirements for specific wire rope configurations including Assembly 1 (2,000' x 2" diameter), Assembly 2 (three 250' x 2" diameter pieces), and Assemblies 3 and 4 (each 1,250' x 1.5" diameter with matched lengths).

Each assembly has detailed specifications for wire rope construction, core type, material (galvanized steel), breaking strength requirements (ranging from 208-393 kips), and termination specifications using Crosby G-416 or equivalent spelter sockets. The document includes certification requirements for proof load testing, breaking strength verification, and metal stamp identification. Special requirements apply to Assemblies 3 and 4, which must have matched lengths within ±3" of each other at 20,000 lbs tension. Detailed packaging, handling, and inspection requirements are specified, with each assembly to be supplied on separate reels with proper identification tags and accompanying manufacturing certificates.

DELIVERABLES

Documentation required:

• Manufacturing certificate for each wire rope showing description, actual break strength, test date, and any other pertinent certification information.

• See certification requirements for Items 1.1 – 1.4.

PLACE OF PERFORMANCE

The place of performance for the manufacturing, testing, packaging, and preparation of the wire rope shall be the responsibility of the supplier. The supplier is responsible for all aspects of production, quality control, testing, and ensuring that all deliverables meet the requirements in this specification.

PACKAGING AND HANDLING REQUIREMENTS

Each wire rope assembly must be properly packaged and labeled to prevent damage during transport:

• Packaging: Each spool of wire rope must be supplied on a separate reels or spool.

• Identification Tag: Each wire rope shall include clear identification tags on the rope specifying the rope diameter, length, construction, and load rating.

• Wire Rope Assembly 1 is to be shipped with seized end as last turn on outer wrap.

INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE

Upon delivery, the wire rope will be inspected by NSWCCD ARD or an appointed representative. The inspection will verify the following:

• Compliance with the specified dimensions, construction, and breaking strength

• Condition of the wire rope and its packaging

• Presence of all required certifications and documentation.

The material will be considered accepted once it passes inspection and all documentation has been provided and verified to match the specifications contained within this document.
