About this file

This document outlines the Primary Pressure and Hardware Specifications for the POSI System, a standalone Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) test bench designed for automated compliance and performance verification. The POSI System must feature a three-pressure manifold system capable of testing SCBA units at 2216, 4500, and 5500 PSI, with dual transducers including an Enhanced Precision (EP) Transducer for high-accuracy measurements and a 250 PSIG medium pressure transducer calibrated specifically for 5500 PSI SCBA testing. The unit must incorporate an Integrated Sound Detection System (SDS) with microphone hardware to meet manufacturer-specific test protocols, particularly for MSA brand SCBAs. The test bench must comply with NFPA 1852 standards (including current 2026/2027 editions) for mandated annual SCBA functional testing.

The procurement is for the standalone test bench and head assembly only, excluding a laptop or PC, and must communicate via USB 2.0 interface to a user-provided Windows-compatible computer. The system must include Posi3 USB NIOSH SCBA testing software for automated data recording and pass/fail reporting. Performance capabilities must include full readiness testing with quantitative measurements of facepiece leak checks, exhalation valve opening pressure, static facepiece pressure, and bypass flow rates; dynamic breathing simulation utilizing a breathing machine to simulate air consumption at standard (40 LPM) and maximum (100 LPM) work rates; and alarm accuracy verification within manufacturer-specified PSI tolerances. Physical specifications indicate the unit weighs approximately 34 lbs (excluding head) with a footprint not exceeding 14.1" H x 13.5" W x 16.0" D.

POSI SYSTEM

Primary Pressure and Hardware Specifications

The unit must be internally configured to support the highest standard SCBA operating pressures and precision requirements.

• Three-Pressure Manifold System: The device must include internal manifolds and external connectors specifically designed to test SCBA units at 2216, 4500, and

5500 PSI.

• Dual Transducer Precision:

o Must feature an Enhanced Precision (EP) Transducer for high-accuracy air flow and pressure measurements.

o Must include a 250 PSIG medium pressure transducer calibrated specifically for 5500 PSI SCBA model testing.

• Integrated Sound Detection System (SDS): The unit must include an integrated microphone and SDS hardware required to meet manufacturer-specific test protocols (such as those for MSA brand SCBAs).

Compliance and Software Integration

• NFPA Standards: The test bench must meet NFPA 1852 (and current 2026/2027 editions) for mandated annual functional testing of SCBA equipment.

• PC-Based Architecture (No Laptop Included): The procurement is for the standalone test bench and head assembly only. The unit must communicate via USB 2.0 interface to a user-provided Windows-compatible PC.

• Included Software: Must include the Posi3 USB NIOSH SCBA testing software for automated data recording and pass/fail reporting.

Performance Requirements

The bench must be capable of executing the following automated test sequences:

• Full Readiness Testing: Quantitative testing including facepiece leak checks, exhalation valve opening pressure, static facepiece pressure, and bypass flow rates.

• Dynamic Breathing Simulation: Must utilize a breathing machine to simulate realistic air consumption at standard (40 LPM) and maximum (100 LPM) work rates.

• Alarm Accuracy: Verification of low-pressure alarm activation within manufacturer-specified PSI tolerances.

Physical and Connectivity Specifications

• Interface: Single USB 2.0 port for computer connectivity (replacing legacy parallel port models).

• Weight & Dimensions: Approximately 34 lbs (excluding head) with a footprint not exceeding 14.1" H x 13.5" W x 16.0" D.
