4.2. FRC ASE Norfolk Naval Shipyard:

4.2.1. Evaluate the work area, work practices, engineering and administrative controls to determine if procedures are adequate to reduce direct and indirect employee exposure to below the Permissible Exposure Limit (PELs) under all expected conditions of use and that the methods used by the employees support the requirements of these standards. OSHA General Industrial Standards 29 CFR parts: 1910.94; 1910.107; and 1910.252. The evaluation shall include and be based on the data of sampling representing employee exposure during the use of such method under conditions which closely resemble the conditions under which method is to be used for the current job, and by employees whose training and experience are to perform the current job. Determine if Medical surveillance for the Respiratory program, occupational personnel protective Equipment for noise exposure, welding, media abrasive blasting, use of pneumatic tools/sanding, paint booth operations/touch-up, breathing air systems, alarms and signage are adequate under the current conditions. Determine if heavy metals are being contained in the designated areas based on sampling data results and if employee personnel protective equipment, personnel hygiene, and housekeeping methods are reflective of a safe work environment. Determine employee exposure levels during media abrasive blasting, sanding, grinding, and painting processes known to generate airborne concentrations of Hexavalent chromium (VI), Cadmium, Lead, Isocyanates, and any other potential hazardous residues or substances.
