About this file
This document is a Purchase Description (PD) for a Vacuum Gauge Standard (VGS) for the Department of the Air Force Metrology Calibration Program. The specification details requirements for replacing an existing Televac MM200(W)2-2100-267 vacuum gauge system, with precise technical specifications for measuring vacuum levels between 1 X 10-6 to 1 X 10-3 Torr. The VGS must have a digital display, operate with dry nitrogen and air, include communication capabilities via RS232, and meet stringent performance requirements including pressure uncertainty, resolution, and environmental operating conditions.
Key technical requirements include a display weight not exceeding 10 lbs, dimensions no larger than 15"x10"x5", operation between 65-80°F with 80% maximum humidity, and a warm-up time of 30 minutes or less. The system must include a rugged shipping case, have overpressure protection, and come with a comprehensive operator's manual. The procurement is currently in a pre-solicitation/sources sought stage, with the Air Force seeking potential vendors who can meet these exacting specifications for a precision measurement equipment laboratory (PMEL) application. The warranty must be at least one year from delivery, and the system will be inspected and accepted using test equipment traceable to NIST standards.

3.1.1 Front Panel Controls: All modes and functions of the equipment shall be operable using front display panel controls.
3.1.2 Units: The VGS shall have, at a minimum, the following units of pressure:
3.1.2.1 Torr, Pa, mbar, and at least one user defined unit.
3.1.3 Stability Limit: The VGS shall have a user-adjustable stability limit.
3.1.3.1 Stability Indication: Once the set stability limit has been achieved, a visual indication is given on the VGS.
3.1.4 Medium: The VGS shall operate with dry nitrogen and air.
3.1.5 Operator Calibration: The VGS shall allow for alignment, either through adjustment mechanisms or curve fitting, to meet the accuracy requirements in Para 2 for displayed and transmitted measurements.
3.2 Communication: The computer interface must provide a means for electronic communication with the gauge controller using RS232 to an external controller.
3.3 Overpressure Protection: The VGS shall have a maximum pressure safety feature to protect the system by disabling power to the cold cathode gauge.
4.0 MECHANICAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
4.1 Size and Weight:
4.1.1 The VGS display weight shall not exceed 10 lbs.

4.2 Shipping/Carrying Case: Reusable case shall be provided with the VGS for the purpose of shipping the necessary components of the system that require calibration. The case shall be rugged, rigid, waterproof, and capable of withstanding shock and vibration from day-to-day shipping.
4.3 Vacuum Connections: The VGS sensor shall have a 0.75 inch straight pipe port for vacuum connection. Any additional connections, fittings, adapters, or miscellaneous hardware shall be supplied for the system to meet the PD.
4.4 Construction: The VGS shall be designed and constructed of materials that meet the requirements of this specification and in accordance with the best commercial practices for industry approved equipment. It shall be the contractor’s responsibility to assure the government that such design objectives as reliability, accuracy of operation, maintainability and ease of operation have been given due consideration in the manufacture of this equipment. All parts such as shafts, bearings, regulators, switches, controls, connectors, etc., shall have proper clearance and adjustments. They shall work together so that the equipment shall supply the rated requirements without unnecessary strains, vibrations, and overheating.
