About this file
This document is a Product Description for CNC Machine Simulation Software required by the U.S. Air Force 309th CMXG. The government has a requirement for three software license packages that can simulate 2-5 axis CNC machines, including specific Okuma and Mazak machine models. The software must have robust simulation capabilities, including the ability to read G&M code, recognize part features, detect collisions, and generate detailed setup instructions. The government is conducting market research via a Sources Sought notice to determine the best acquisition strategy, which could be competitive or a Small Business Set-Aside. Responses are due by November 8, 2024 to the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center. The requirement will be placed on a Firm-Fixed-Price contract.

Product Description and Specifications for CNC Machine Simulation Software
1. DESCRIPTION & SPECIFICATION FOR NC Simulator Software License.
The 309th CMXG has a requirement for three (3) CNC Simulation software license package that will allow CMXG Engineering to simulate CNC programs virtually on computer systems before running them on the actual CNC Machine. This software shall simulate 2-5 axis machines, including Milling, Turning, and Mill-Turn machines: Specifically, the simulation software must contain an exact digital replica of the following machines, and their controller:
Manufacturer:
Machine Model:
Configuration:
Axis:
Controller:
OKUMA
MCV-A [20x40]
CNC VERTICAL (Twin Column) MILL
3-Axis

1.1 The software must be capable of complete simulation of all Renishaw Machine probe macros on each machine.
The CNC Simulation software shall simulate the machine movements based solely G&M code, regardless of where it came from, and cannot rely on any CAD data to drive the simulation.
The software shall make use feature rich models, meaning it can be queried and measured, recognizing holes as diameters, angular relationships, material thicknesses, etc. and show a color map of excess or negative material compared to the part model.
The toolpath shall be plotted in the graphics window of the software and allow for the tool path to be clicked on, and the program block that is currently being executed shall be highlighted to show exactly which block is plotted.
In NC Program Review mode, the graphics window, NC Program, graphs, and log messages shall all be synchronized. For example, selecting a cut feature on the model takes you to the NC Program line where that feature was cut and that location in the graphs.
The software shall read, plot, and simulate .cls files.
The software shall simulate automatic part transfer between fixtures, multi-channel programming for mill/turn machining, parallel kinematics machining, and anything relevant to the simulation so only one part/stock model is used for all operations simulated.
The software shall include an interface application between Siemens NX12 through NX 2312 and the simulation software shall automatically export and properly place, the part, stock, fixtures, CNC Code, tools, origins and anything else required to configure a seamless and automatic simulation.
The simulation software shall create detailed setup instructions complete with detailed tool lists including tool diagrams.
The simulation software shall import IPW (In Process Workpiece) .stl files.
The simulation software shall include a “Player” application that can be placed on computers on the shop floor allowing the machinist to review/play through the simulation, stepping forward and backward, and access the setup instructions and tool lists as well as take measurements on the cut model.
The simulation software shall show collisions or violations in red and stop the simulation and show where the violation occurred.
The simulation software shall compute automatic flute length, and gage length for each tool.
Timely technical support is required.
The software shall not require annual maintenance fees in order to maintain software functionality.
The software shall create a summary sheet upon completion of the simulation stating that the software detected no errors, collisions, or near misses.
There shall contain a Material library with recommended Machining Optimization Data based on real world testing.
