About this file

This Commodity Requirements Document (CRD) from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service specifies detailed requirements for pasta products and egg noodles to be used in domestic food distribution programs, effective June 2025. The document outlines strict quality specifications for wheat and pasta, including requirements for whole grain and enriched pasta variants. Key quality standards include testing for Deoxynivalenol (vomitoxin), using only semolina flour, and maintaining specific wheat quality standards (U.S. No. 1 grade).

The document provides comprehensive packaging and labeling guidelines that differ for school and household distribution channels. For household programs, packaging must be in cartons/boxes with labels featuring at least two colors and a graphic or clear viewing window. Products must have a one-year shelf life, be manufactured within 60 days of shipping, and contractors must maintain a Certificate of Analysis for seven years. The material codes section details specific pasta types, including whole grain and enriched variations, with specified cases and net weight per truck for different pasta shapes and packaging configurations.
