About this file
This document is a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Innovative Research in Cancer Nanotechnology (IRCN; R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) grant program. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is soliciting applications that promote transformative discoveries in cancer biology and/or oncology through the use of nanotechnology. Proposed projects should address major barriers in cancer biology and/or oncology using nanotechnology, with an emphasis on mechanistic studies toward fundamental understanding of nanomaterial and/or nanodevice interactions with biological systems. The funding opportunity is open to a variety of applicant types, including 501(c)(3) nonprofits, small businesses, and state/local governments. The IRCN awards are expected to produce fundamental knowledge to aid future development of nanotechnology-based cancer interventions, though clinical translation is outside the scope of this NOFO. The grant program is assigned to the Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Research (93.394) and Cancer Treatment Research (93.395) federal grant programs, both administered by the Department of Health and Human Services' National Institutes of Health.
