Specifications for GC/MSD System Mass Spectrometer (MS)
Ion source temperature
A 350C limit. A higher source temperature would allow greater flexibility in analysis and can be kept clean longer.
Quadrupole temperature
Ability to heat the quadrupole MS to 106-200C.
Monolithic Quadrupole
Monolithic one pieces quadrupoles (not ion traps).
Mass filter protection
Some type of filter to aid in keeping the main quadrupole cleaner.
Detector Detector replacement that requires little to no tools.
Scan rate (electronic) and Write-to-disk rate
A scan rate is of up to 12,500 u/s and a disk write speed of up to 8,000 u/s.
SIM An ability to watch up to 60 ions in up to 100 groups.
Instrument control Having a local user interface that allows the PC to be located some distance away from the instrument. Also, software that can control two GC/MSs that are not next to each other and have to the ability to operate a LAN.
Maintenance access
A design to simplify maintenance and service.
Maintenance scheduling
Early maintenance feedback to alert multiple users that service is required.
Gas Chromatograph (GC) & Auto Sampler
EPC gas/flow control
Control all injection port and detector gases at a precision specification of pressure set-points of
0.001 PSI with typical control of +/- 0.001 – 99.999 PSI
Safety shut-down Safety features that could potentially show column breakage, leaks in the injection port or the detector or for that matter anywhere along the flow path within the instrument.
Automatic injector Dual tower injection ports that allow for dual injections when dual towers are installed.
Autosampler tray A sample tray of at least 100 samples preferably more if possible.
Autosampler bar code reader – optional and added as upgrade later it needed.
A bar code reader as part of the GC AutoSampler so samples could be tracked all through the lab and make the bar code label number part of the GCMS report.
Liner replacement A standard twist top inlet cover so inlet maintenance is tool free.
Retention time locking
Retention Time Locking software for quicker column changes and sample identification.
Data System Simultaneous MS and GC
Software capable of collecting GC signals from the std GC detectors (if installed) as well as the MS signal within one software package. Also the potential to control/collect data from 2 GCMS systems from a single computer.
SIM/scan The ability to collect SIM and scan data together during an entire run.
Application auto-tune
Auto-tune protocols for DFTPP and BFB.
Quantitation setup A target compound list can be set up by injecting a standard and allowing the software to locate the compounds and suggest the ions to use for identification.
Application reports The ability to optimize reports suited for individual customer’s needs.
File import/export The ability to accept properly formatted sample lists from a LIMS or other computer to build a sequence list. Also to export files with user-selected fields.
Customization Allows for extensive software modification and automation.
Spectral libraries Ability to use the latest NIST or Wiley sample libraries. We need the Wiley database library included.
Spectral and RTL databases
Libraries that include both spectral and retention time data.
21CFR11
Compliance Qualification
Ability to meet this specification.
Previous data files transportable
Backwards compatible with our older Agilent systems would be a plus.
Supplies Majority of the existing supplies already stocked in our lab would be usable saving large amounts of funding for research.
