PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The FLAIM Systems, FS-FT +- FLAIM Trainer Plus is a fully immersed Virtual Reality (VR) simulator combined with a patented haptics feedback system and real equipment, providing real experience for firefighters and crew chiefs in life-like virtual environments. The FLAIM Trainer Plus is the only two person integrated VR system enabling team objectives in a variety of scenarios and conditions. It is the only system to feature a head mounted VR display goggle integrated with breathing apparatus and combined with a branch nozzle, reactive hose and heated personal protective coat. The system features include realistic components and functionality providing safe, economical and highly realistic fire ground operations training in a controlled and repeatable environment. The simulator is intended to supplement real world fire ground training and performs many of the same functions. It allows reinforcement of hands-on fire ground training for new and existing firefighters in a controlled, cost efficient and fail-safe manner. Unlike traditional fire ground training that is inherently unsafe and difficult to produce, the FLAIM Trainer Plus provides firefighters the ability to train as teams or individuals in the most realistic VR world available and can put firefighters through varied scenarios, replicating fire development in a variety of conditions found on the fire ground. Because it is virtually impossible to train the most dangerous aspects of fire ground operations, and phases of fire development, effective and realistic simulator training is critical. The 2 Crew option allows teams to train on full response from scene-size up, fire development, hazards in structural, aircraft, vehicle fire and boiling liquid expansion vapor explosions emergencies. The FLAIM Trainer Plus allows team or individual training for scenarios which are likely to occur within Altus AFB response areas. Use of the FLIAM Trainer aids the increased life-span of current real-world use apparatus and equipment currently used to perform this training. Fire ground training evolutions places excessive wear and tear on apparatus, equipment and increases out-of-service time.
