About this file
This document is an Addendum containing Questions and Answers (Q&A) related to Request for Quote (RFQ) #P24-0257 issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Acquisitions Office. The RFQ is for a Seed Imaging System that must include 4x, 10x, and 25x objective lenses, motorized autofocus capabilities, optical zoom, a 2 megapixel or higher camera, adjustable light intensity and direction with diffusor and reflection controls, and the ability to create custom presets. CDFA also requires a laser to assist in the orientation of larger samples and the picking of individual seeds.
The key pricing and contract details are not provided in this addendum. However, the related state and local contract opportunity indicates this is for the State of California, with a contract ID of P24-0257.

ADDENDUM [No. 1] Questions and Answers (Q&A) Request for Quote # P24-0257
1. Q: Specification 1: Objective lenses, details “4x, 10x, and 25x” as required lenses. The diopter numbers; to demarcate our lenses vs. magnifications “x”s for the objective lenses.
Would CDFA accept the diopter numbers, for example “+4, +10, and +25” also be seen as acceptable?
A: Diopters +4, +10, +25 with optical zoom x30 capability are acceptable.
2. Q: The specifications do not mention a focus mechanism; does the laboratory wish to have motorized autofocus capabilities on the microscope system?
A: Yes, CDFA would like to have motorized autofocus capabilities on the microscope system.
3. Q: The specifications mention a requirement for digital zoom capability; but not optical zoom capability. This could be an unintentional ambiguity. Did the specification instead mean a motorized optical zoom? Digital zoom can make an object bigger, but only by digitally magnifying the digital image (similar to zooming in on a captured picture on a iphone, resulting in a magnified, pixelated low-quality image), not by increasing optical resolution and magnification which comes from an optical zoom (and has a higher cost). Is there a desire to have an optical zoom?
A: Yes, optical zoom is required.
4. Q: The specification requires a 5-megapixel or greater camera for image capture. Would CDFA agree to reduce specification to be “2MP sensor or higher”, as at the magnifications for the equipment proposed in this RFQ, a 2MP sensor will provide the digital resolution sampling required to capture all of the optical resolution from the lens system without the limitations from supporting higher megapixel counts (lower frame rates, higher delays in input and output, increased file sizes, and reduced sensitivity to light).
A: Higher frame rates are more important than the camera resolution, CDFA will accept 2MP or higher.
5. Q: For the Adjustable light intensity and direction, with diffusor and reflection controls; does CDFA also wish to be able to make custom-named presets; to recall previously used settings?
A: Yes, CDFA would like to be able to make custom-named presets; to recall previously used settings.

6. Q: Does CDFA require a laser, or any other specialized physical pointing device to assist in the orientation of larger samples, and/or the picking of individual seeds?
A: Yes, CDFA is requiring a laser to assist in the orientation of larger samples, and/or the picking of individual seeds.
