Section 1. Project Summary
PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The NPS wishes to continue their long-standing efforts to provide opportunities for cooperation with tribal entities and maintain professional relationships with them. Such cooperation is pivotal in the northern regions of Alaska, where the majority of the population is of Alaska Native descent. The involvement of tribal entities, such as Maniilaq, stimulates stakeholder interest in cultural resources stewardship involving federal lands. Maniilaq will help with travel logistics for Northwest Arctic tribal representatives to attend a Place Names Workshop.
STATEMENT OF PUBLIC PURPOSE
Due to difficulties in communications, logistics, and travel in the northern regions, this cooperative agreement is necessary to foster better participation. Tribal entities will be invited to a Place Names Workshop in order to review an existing place names database and to share additional information.
