SUPPLY & INSTALL HVAC SYSTEM P a g e | 1
National Park Service Southeast Utah Group – Canyonlands National Park
Statement of Work: Supply & Install HVAC System
Location: Maze District, Canyonlands National Park, Hans Flat, Utah
PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS
A. Synopsis. Supply, install and calibrate a one ton heat pump with a ductless mini split unit at Canyonlands National Park. The photovoltaic (PV) battery building houses 72 batteries that store electricity for the Hans Flat station. The PV building has one existing air conditioning window unit in the inverter room but requires a HVAC unit to better control the temperature in the battery room. The HVAC work around the solar batteries requires extra safety precautions due to the electrical hazards presented by the battery banks. The work will also include delivery, unloading, installation, wiring, and calibration of the new HVAC unit. The Contractor shall provide an electrician to connect the new heat pump to the existing power supply at the PV building.
B. Qualifications. The Contractor shall have a minimum of five years of experience in the field of HVAC systems. Provide any other information on technical qualifications and training of the installation crew with the required submittal. The electrician shall be certified in working with both AC and DC electrical circuits.
C. Delivery Location and Instructions: This remote HVAC work site is located in Canyonlands National Park, Maze District. To access the Maze District and Hans Flat Ranger Station from Moab go North on 191 for 30 miles and turn West onto Interstate I-
70. Take I-70 west from Green River 11 miles to the Hwy 24/Hanksville exit and drive south towards Hanksville. Approximately 29 miles down Hwy 24 you will see a large brown sign for Goblin Valley State Park which is a turn off to your right. Do not turn there! Approximately 1/2 mile past that turn off is a dirt road on your LEFT which you want to turn on to. There is a wooden sign as you make the turn that says Horseshoe Canyon and Hans Flat Ranger Station etc. so you will know you have the correct road.
Stay on the obvious main road until you reach a Y junction (25 miles) which will have a sign to turn right towards Hans Flat (left to Horseshoe Canyon). Stay on that main road which will take you directly to the Hans Flat Ranger Station. Travel time from Moab to the Maze is 3 hours with good road conditions and no trailer, the last 45 miles are on dirt road.
D. The Contractor is required to provide all equipment for off-loading the heat pump and moving the HVAC equipment. The Park will not provide any equipment. Deliveries will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 4:30. No deliveries will be accepted on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Federal Holidays.
E. Overall Period of Performance and Installation Time. The overall period of performance for this project is 30 calendar days from award. Included in the overall time is the
SUPPLY & INSTALL HVAC SYSTEM P a g e | 2 installation phase. Due to the need to be expeditious in the installation phase, the period of performance is 7 calendar days (1 week) from start of site work.
F. Warranty. Minimum terms include a 12 month full replacement period, and limited 48 months pro-rated warranty.
G. Site Tour. All prospective Contractors are highly encouraged to visit the facilities. There will not be a formal date set for a site tour, however interested parties can visit the site with appointment, at any time up to two weeks before the bid due date. The Contractor must set up an appointment with the facility manager Cynthia Beyer at 435-259-2652 to visit the site.
