STATEMENT OF WORK

Fabricate and Install Boat Launching Docks at Oak Bottom Marina Whiskeytown National Recreation Area

Background/Introduction

The National Park Service (NPS), Whiskeytown National Recreation Area (WHIS), has a requirement for the replacement of two existing deteriorating boating visitor use docks at Oak Bottom Marina. These docks are used by visiting boaters to launch watercraft for day use on Whiskeytown Lake. The docks have deteriorated and the floats, undercarriage, and decking requires replacement. These docks provide boaters lake access to one of the busiest watercraft launching locations within WHIS. The new docks should replicate the Whiskey Creek docks located at the north side of WHIS. The three piece docks measure approximately: One walkway platform 48” long by 95” wide hinge, attached to a second section measuring approximately 8’ wide by 15’ long hinge, attached to a third and final section measuring approximately 8’ wide by 37’ long. One of these docks needs to meet American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards (ABAAS).

Scope

Contractor shall construct and install two docks with 48” long by 95” wide walkways or access platforms, one section of dock measuring 8’ wide by 15’ long, and one end section of dock measuring 8’ wide by 37’ long. This fabrication and installation includes equal or like super drum floats Item No. 01-1-4896-12e. There are eleven floats per dock. Docks must be designed to support 25 lbs per square foot minimum live load. One dock must meet ADA/ABAAS requirements. Existing docks will be removed by the Government prior to the contractor installing the new docks.

Tasks

All items listed in this section should be designed specific to the project including beams, joist sizes, and welds. Structural elements shall be sized for live and dead loads of the dock. All fasteners and metal hardware shall be stainless steel (SS), non-corroding HDPE, and decking should be weather resistant.

• Contractor shall construct a steel structure, self-leveling, and self-tracking trapezoid frame, wheel guide brackets, and steel components. Wheel assemblies need to be hot dip galvanized to G-90 or equivalent after fabrication.

• Contractor shall fabricate from C4x5.4 steel channel, 8 foot wide at the bottom of the frame with sufficient height and width at the launch ramp to accommodate the slope of the launch ramp and the width of the launch ramp guiderails.

• Contractor shall construct the dock frame and undercarriage including 2 each steel wheel guide brackets fabricated from 3/8” steel plate and C4x5.4 steel channel designed to hold

3” diameter polyurethane wheels and 3/4” diameter X 8’ long stainless axles to have 3/4” NC X 1 1/2” long threads on each end. The wheel and axle needs to be assembled to the steel portion of the wheel assemblies with 3/4” SS castle nuts, SS cotter pins, galvanized steel flat washers on the outside and brass washers on the inside. The four polyurethane wheel assemblies need to be fabricated from 3/8” steel plate and 4” channel with 3” diameter X 4” wide polyurethane wheels.

• Contractor will construct hinge assemblies welded on both ends flush with the top of the finished deck surface. Each double hinge assembly shall consist of one 3/8” A-36 steel plate 8” high x 24” long with an 8” 1 1/4” schedule 40 A-53 steel pipe welded to the top of the plate on each end. Each 1 1/4” schedule 40 pipe hinge section has to have 3 each 3/8” A-36 steel gussets contorted to fit the pipe and welded vertically beneath the pipe for support. Hinges must be located so they mesh with the hinges on the adjoining dock sections.

• Contractor shall design, furnish, and install two light weight non-corrosive aluminum walking dock entrance platforms measuring approximately 48” X 95” one with ADA/ABAAS approved handrail. Contractor shall provide professionally engineered stamped walkway dock entrance platform with shop drawings approved by the State of California, before approved fabrication.

• Contractor shall build and install approximately one section of head dock measuring 8’ wide X 15’ long section of dock.

• Contractor shall build and install one ADA/ABAAS compliant section of head dock measuring 8’ wide X 15’ long.

• Contractor shall fabricate and assemble one 8’ wide X 37’ long.

• Contractor shall fabricate and assemble one ADA/ABAAS compliant section of head dock measuring 8’ wide X 37’.

• Contractor shall provide shop drawings including dimensions, mounting, materials, and design.

• Contractor shall provide and install a minimum of (20 total) 10 each dock Henderson 503

H cleats or equal for tethering boats.

• Deck material shall be 2” X 8” Trex or equivalent (must be NPS approved) decking to be fastened on top and to exposed fascia dock surfaces.

• Contractor shall provide two copies of shop drawings to WHIS for approval before proceeding.

• Contractor shall provide schedule of fabrication including expected delivery dates.
