Scope of Work

The restrooms at the NFH Visitor Center receive heavy use year round especially in the fall and winter months when close to 10,000 students visit the NFH on school tours. Over the course of the year, more than 70,000 people come to the NFH and many if not most make use of the facilities. Currently there are issues with two doors in each restroom: the main door (A) and the handicap stall door (B).

A) For more than a year, the women’s restroom door has not operated properly, posing both an inconvenience and a safety hazard to visitors passing through it. The problem is related to the handicap access feature, which is meant to open the door automatically when pressed. It currently does not function properly, and previous efforts by the Department of General Services staff to repair it have been unsuccessful. Currently, the feature is unplugged and the door hinge offers no resistance at all, therefore, the door flies open when someone pushes on it (causing a safety hazard to those inside the restroom), and then remains open until someone physically pulls it shut (causing an inconvenience).

The men’s restroom door has similarly failed and has now been non-operational for the past month.

B) The door to the handicap stalls in both the women’s and men’s restroom currently have a sliding lock, which is not ADA compliant. Each needs to be replaced with a rotating latch.

Requirements and Materials

The work consists of repairing the door operator on each restroom door, installing new ADA push button door actuators, sanding and painting the door jambs as required for the installation of the new ADA push button door actuators, and installing new ADA locks for both the men’s and women’s ADA restroom stalls.

Parts required to complete the work are as follows:

Norton 5600 Series track and arm assembly (part# 5610-1) –two (2) total

ADA push button jamb switches, (part #59J-HSS) as manufactured by Disability Systems, Inc., or approved equal – four (4) total

Narrow jamb style mounting boxes (part #BOX1010) as needed for the two new ADA push buttons as manufactured by Disability Systems, Inc., or approved equal – four

(4) total

ADA Partition Door Chrome Plated Kit (part #50-8511515) as manufactured by Accurate Partitions Corp., or approved equal—two (2) total

Before installation of the jamb switches, the Contractor shall remove all bondo material that was placed in the jambs. Jamb should be smooth to the touch. Upon completion of
