OVERVIEW
The work proposed under this agreement is for the removal and/or reduction of hazardous fuels on NPS lands at Point Reyes National Seashore(PORE) and Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) by the Marin County Fire Department’s(MCFD) Tamalpais Fire Crew( Tam Crew).
The Tam Crew has been working in collaboration with the NPS at both units for 9 years.
The Tam Crew has been a critical partner in the NPS efforts to minimize potential fire impacts to communities and identified resources at risk. This crew works in conjunction with NPS staff in a collaborative effort to try and mitigate future impacts of wildfire.
STATEMENT OF JOINT OBJECTIVES/PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN
Fuel reduction and fire mitigation projects are critical components of the NPS fire management planning and activities. These activities are critical in protecting valued resources within the seashore in addition to adjacent homeowners and communities.
This task agreement provides for the procedures for mechanical removal of vegetation throughout the two NPS units at different targeted sites.
The Tam Crew is a well-established local state certified Type 1 fire crew that has been involved in many fuels management and prescribed projects with the NPS. Their skill set and expertise is ideal for assisting us in reaching our goals of hazardous fuel reduction. This opportunity also provides the NPS another mechanism for reaching out to community members and organizations through the outreach and educational component of the Tam Crew program.
The NPS is charged with managing wildland vegetation throughout the seashore in an effort to reduce fire potential and negative impacts to valued park resources, and the Tam Crew is a critical component aimed at reaching these goals.
RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT
The Tam crew staff and workforce is uniquely qualified to provide the required equipment, labor, and skill sets needed to implement the NPS's strategic fuels management plans. The Tam Crew has a long history of performing fuels management activities in the Park and their management staff have a comprehensive understanding of NPS service goals, objectives and mission.
NATIONAL PARK SERVICE INVOLVEMENT
PORE Fire Management Staff will work directly with Tam Crew on all work being performed including actively collaborating in the planning process and carrying out of the project work, and providing logistical support.
PORE will provide conservation and restoration knowledge relevant to the project tasks;
and field expertise necessary to assure successful completion of all projects.
Point Reyes staff will provide orientation to the projects and education on management issues and goals being addressed for the Crew members involved.
The staff of PORE will promote safety awareness while Tam Crew members are working with power tools and hand tools, and provide written and verbal instructions and direction for completion of the work, as needed, and provide tools and equipment needed to accomplish the work tasks that Tam Crew cannot provide.
SINGLE-SOURCE JUSTIFICATION
DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR
SINGLE SOURCE POLICY REQUIREMENTS

Marin County Fire Department (MCFD) in the responding agency to wildland fires with the NPS. MCFD has a vested interest in the NPS fuels reduction program and works collaboratively with the NPS. By working in these project it exposes the Tam Crew and MCFD to the vegetation, terrain, etc...
In addition, the education as well as the interagency and public cooperative management opportunities makes a cooperative arrangement with MCFD mutually beneficial for both the MCFD and the NPS.
