Description of Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) Used
Project #: _667-18-111__ Title: Abate Central Chase/Replace Fire Main Date: _3/14/2022_
Based on the responses to the evaluation questions, provide a description of the ILSM that will be implemented during the project to compensate for the deficiency or condition. Attach additional sheets if necessary.
Overton Brooks VAMC has a requirement to remove all the asbestos in the central pipe chase and to replace the fire main riser in the main hospital, Building 1. The central pipe chase and fire main traverse through all floors of the hospital. This project will remove friable asbestos containing material within the main central chase of the hospital. Asbestos containing material is being removed to allow for the facilities primary fire main risers to be replaced. New fire main risers will be installed. Piping in the central chase will be re-insulated. Project will require extensive phasing to prevent asbestos related exposure. New fire main risers need to be installed prior to removal of existing ones. Fire riser and associated floor zone valves, flow switches, hose connections, tamper switches and test & drain valve components and piping will be replaced from Sub-Basement up to 12th floor, two floors at a time, starting with 11th and 12th floor and work down to Sub-Basement. Coordinate all phasing requirements with all other trades. Refer to sheet Gl103 Phasing Plan. All existing fire protection piping shall be relocated to create required space for installation of all new services for new construction. The old sprinkler system will be taken out of service and shall have a maximum shutdown period of 8 hours. A fire watch will be in place while the system is out of service. Fire riser will be valved off/bypassed to ensure isolation of the two floors and continued supply to the remaining floors.
