Overton Brooks VAMC Infection Control Precautions for Class II Projects
Based on the Infection Control Risk Assessment of this construction/remodel project, the following activities are required.
PROJECT: BW Crawl Space Asbestos Abatement Precautions
During Construction Project Upon Completion of Project

1. Provide active means to reduce airborne dust from dispersing into atmosphere.
2. Water mist work surfaces to control dust while cutting.
3. Seal unused doors with duct tape.
4. Block off and seal air vents if the HVAC system is removed or isolated.
5. Place dust mat at entrance and exit of work area
6. Remove or isolate HVAC system in areas where work is being performed if required to prevent contamination of adjacent areas.
7. Construction Waste
a. Transport in tightly covered container,
b. Containers without tight fitting solid lids must have covering taped in place BEFORE transport outside the project area,
c. Outside of containers must be cleaned when visibly soiled
8. When removing construction debris, utilize only the designated construction route.
1. Wipe work surfaces with cleaner/disinfectant.
2. Contain and transport construction waste as outline for “During Construction”.
3. Wet mop and/or vacuum with HEPA filtered vacuum before leaving work area.
4. Upon completion, restore HVAC system where work was performed.
5. Schedule Terminal Clean once work is complete
Maintain control measures until ALL Work is completed. Exceptions must be approved by Infection Prevention on a case by case basis.
