About this file

This is a Statement of Need for the purchase of an anaerobic chamber for the Rocky Mountain Regional Research Laboratory. The anaerobic chamber is required to process samples free from oxygen for molecular biology applications, specifically to preserve fecal samples anaerobically for introduction to animal models. Exposure to oxygen can alter microbial communities in samples and introduce bias in scientific studies. The equipment will be procured through Request for Quote (RFQ) #36C25926Q0626, a Total Small Business Set-Aside solicitation issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 19. The government anticipates awarding a firm-fixed price contract. The NAICS code is 334516 with a small business size standard of 1,000 employees.

The anaerobic chamber must meet specific minimum technical requirements including standard 120V electrical, interior dimensions of at least 55" x 31" x 40" (width x depth x height) with a maximum depth of 34", interior volume of at least 210 liters, and an airlock of at least 12" x 14" x 11". The chamber must include an activated carbon/O₂ palladium cartridge scrubber, side access panel, low gas supply alarm, and leak detection alarm. The contract will include all necessary items for the anaerobic chamber to be operational except for gas tanks. Quotes must be submitted via email to Devin.Reichert@va.gov no later than 4:00 PM MT on August 7, 2026, with a question deadline of 4:00 PM MT on August 3, 2026. Email submissions are limited to 4MB, and all portions of the offer must reach the designated office before the deadline.

Statement of Need Research Anaerobic Chamber Purchase

I. Rocky Mountain Regional Research Laboratory has regular use for an anaerobic chamber to processes samples free from oxygen. The anaerobic chamber is intended for molecular biology applications. For example, a recently funded research project has a requirement to preserve fecal samples anaerobically and aliquot for introduction to animal models. Exposure to oxygen can alter the microbial community in fecal samples and introduce unnecessary bias in scientific studies. This equipment description and quantity required are specified below:

II. This contract will include all necessary items for an anaerobic chamber to be in use, with the exception of gas tanks.

Saliant features that are minimum technically required:

A. Electrical will be standard 120V plug B. Interior Dimensions (equal or greater to): 55” x 31” x 40” (width x depth x height). Depth max is 34” C. Interior volume (equal or greater to): 210 liters D. Airlock dimensions (equal or greater to): 12” x 14” x 11” inches (width x depth x height)to accommodate our sample containers E. Activated Carbon/O2 palladium cartridge scrubber F. Side access panel G. Low gas supply alarm and leak detection alarm H. Establish <10ppm O2 in less than 1 hour to accommodate sporadic specimen delivery and need to process within 2 hrs.

I. Purge cycle of 90 seconds J. Set up for gloveless sleeves or optional cuff for direct hand access K. Gas tank floor restraint L. Pressurized gas regulators and gas tank fittings.

M. Sufficient supplies and catalyst for one year of operation.

If the unit requires an oven system for regeneration of catalyst, that should be included with 120V plug. Max depth is 34”.

III. MAINTENANCE and WARRANTY:

a) Coverage shall include one (1) year maintenance at no additional charge.

b) Purchase will include a one (1) year warranty for parts, labor, replacement parts.

b) Contractor shall provide on-call services for troubleshooting instrument connections Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, from 6 am – 6 pm MST.

IV. Security Requirements:

There are no security requirements, however, only trained personnel will be approved to operate this equipment.

V. Identification of Potential Conflicts of Interest (COI):

No COIs identified

VI. Inspection and Acceptance Criteria:

The equipment will be inspected by the Eastern Colorado Health Care Services team upon delivery.

VII. Place of Performance:

Contractor shall deliver all equipment to the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, 1700 N Wheeling St, Aurora, CO 80045 at no additional charge. Delivery charges shall be included in the price of the equipment.

Point of Contact:
