This justification and approval is for a Kreg Therapeutics Bariatric Chair Bed procurement, which will

This order is estimated at $166,556.61.
3. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used:
Jesse Brown Nursing Service of the Inpatient Unit is requesting the purchase of a Kreg Therapeutics Bariatric Chair Bed that will be used to assist VA staff with the Clinical treatment Plan of bariatric patients. Kreg Therapeutics has the EZ-Wider hospital bed that has unique features that will allow adjustment/repositioning of patient without excessive strain of Hospital Staff. The EZ-Wider bed has the feature that allows staff to quickly adjust the width of the bed with patient in the bed. This feature allows VA Clinical staff to have proper posture to avoid straining. When the bed width is adjusted the existing pad stores under the bed quickly. This allows Staff to complete routine tasks & adjustment of the patient without excessive risk of injury. Furthermore, this bed can go from laying to standing / Laying to seated position / Seated position to assisted standing. Other Beds have laying to standing features, but do not include this feature with quick adjusting width. The functionality and design of the E-Z Wider bed reduces overall physical challenges for the veteran and staff, which, allows for greater patient independence and fewer staff injuries.
No training required as staff have been using this system already.
4. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted:
