About this file
This document is a justification for other than full and open competition for a federal contract. The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded a firm-fixed price contract valued at $284,685 to Varian Medical Systems, Inc. for maintenance and repair of a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator and associated software and accessories located at the Memphis VA Medical Center. The period of performance is from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022. A sole source award was justified because Varian Medical Systems is the original equipment manufacturer and only authorized provider for preventative maintenance, repairs, and software upgrades due to proprietary hardware and software. Market research found no other vendors could service the equipment without access to Varian's proprietary software and systems. The justification and acquisition plan were approved by the contracting officer and branch chief.
