About this file

This justification and approval document is for a brand name only acquisition of a Steris Steam Heated Washer/Disinfector equipment from the Department of Veterans Affairs for the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The equipment will be used to wash and disinfect surgical instruments including reusable daVinci X/XI instruments in the Sterile Processing Service Department. A sources sought notice was published to identify any interested parties or alternative brands but responses indicated no other equipment met the size requirements of the space or had an approved daVinci cycle within the United States. Market research found the anticipated cost to the government for the Steris equipment to be fair and reasonable based on similar past orders. The related solicitation is for this brand name only requirement for a Steris model 6530 steam heated washer/disinfector with a response date to the Great Lakes Acquisition Center.

The Sources Sought was posted Brand Name or Equal to identify all Parties/Brands for the requirement. The Government received several responses and one that requested the Overall Width & Depth be increased to allow additional brands to compete. The Contract Specialist went back to the site to see if the requirement can be adjusted to allow more competition. The site stated it is not possible due to the restrictions of the support pillar & water closet on both sides. Additionally, it has been identified that the other brand identified (Getinge) doesn’t have an Intuitive Da Vinci Cycle that is approved for within the United States.
