About this file
This is a Brand Name Justification document for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JHQVAMC) is requesting four additional Stryker TPX consolidated operating room equipment (Core) 2 Consoles for compatible hand tools to be used during surgery operations. The procurement is specifically for Stryker equipment because the facility already has two existing Stryker TPX consoles, and the Stryker TPS High Speed Micro Saw/Drill System and Stryker TPX Micro Saw/Drill System are proprietary systems that only work with Stryker consoles.
The document justifies the brand-specific purchase by explaining that the CORE 2 Consoles are used to power corded Stryker Power Tools, including Rem-B/TPX Micro Power Tools, Pi Drive High Speed Drills, S2 ENT Drills, ENT and Joint Shavers, and Stryker Bone Mill Plus systems. These tools can be used to cut, drill, ream, decorticate, shape and smooth bone, teeth, and other surgical applications. Stryker has provided an authorized distributor letter for two service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) capable of providing the Stryker TPX Core 2 Console. The document is signed by the Contracting Officer Jeannette Morphew and is effective on 11/15/2024.

3. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used:
This is a brand name procurement. The facility currently has 2 stryker TPX consoles with multiple saw attachements. With the Stryker TPX saws and cutting tools already in stock at the facility, the only brand of console that will work with the surgical tools is the Stryker TPX Console 2. The Stryker TPS High Speed Micro Saw/Drill System and The Stryker TPX Micro Saw/Drill System are Stryker Only Systems. Meaning, no other console will work with it. There are hand pieces to the system, power cords that plug into the hand pieces then attach the handpiece to the console. The Stryker CORE 2 Consoles is a consolidated generator used to power a multitude of Stryker corded instruments and power tools in the OR.
