Omnicell XT Medication Cabinet UpgradeError! Unknown document property name.
1.0 Background
Veteran’s Health Services Office (VHSO), VA Medical Center Fayetteville, AR Pharmacy Service transitioned to patient profiling for inpatient wards beginning October 2013. This transition allowed for more secure handling of medications by Pharmacy and Primary Care, as well as changing to point-of-care dispensing for all medications needed. All medication orders transitioned to Clinic Orders and are linked to Bar Code Medication Administration for point of use scanning. This system integrates with Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) to provide proper security of medication.
Currently, VHSO maintains over 50 Omnicell ADCs. These operate on the Omnicell Omnicenter server which runs Omnicell proprietary software. VHSO’s existing ADCs that must be replaced are a mix of generation three and generation four units. The generation three and four units are no longer compliant with Windows security upgrades and thus no longer serviceable by the contractor (Omnicell). This requirement is to replace existing Omnicell generation three and four ADCs that support VHSO’s medication management program at the clinic level (Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Branson, Jay, Ozark).
