About this file

These are design and technical specification drawings for replacing water softeners at the St. Cloud VA Hospital, dated January 28, 2025. The project involves comprehensive replacement of three existing water softener units, including removal of old equipment, installation of new tanks, and modifications to piping, control valves, and associated infrastructure. Key technical requirements include installing new softener tanks in the same locations as removed units, using durable materials that can withstand salt and moisture, modifying piping to accommodate new connections, installing new drain line flow controls, providing new gages and sample piping, and ensuring proper insulation of inlet and outlet piping. The drawings provide detailed photographic and schematic documentation of existing conditions, control valve configurations, and specific replacement components and procedures.

The project specifications outline precise technical requirements for the contractor, such as providing new drain line pipes with isolation ball valves, fabricating galvanized pipe supports, installing dielectric fittings, replacing isolation valves, and implementing new control units with 120-volt connections. The replacement work is designed to minimize service disruption, with the specification noting that water softeners should remain in service supplying water to the VA hospital at all times, except during specific valve replacement periods not exceeding four hours. The contractor will be responsible for temporary piping and unit programming to accommodate the replacement process.
