Construction Specification 400—Transportation and Delivery of Oyster

Castle Blocks and Oyster Reef Mats

1. Scope The work consists of the transportation and delivery of the oyster castle blocks and oyster reef mats from the Material Collection Location to the Point of Delivery, as specified in the Contract Documents.

2. Equipment and material This work includes transportation and delivery required by the contract at the time of award. If additional transportation and delivery activities and costs are required during the performance of the contract as a result of changed, deleted, or added items of work for which the contractor is entitled to an adjustment in contract price, compensation for such costs will be included in the price adjustment for the item or items of work changed or added.

Oyster castle blocks will be used to create artificial reefs. Each Oyster Castle reef will be comprised by 8 manufactured concrete blocks (12” x 12” x 8” [L x W x H]). Each of these blocks are to be stackable and interlocking, and designed to create complex, stable habitat that is suitable for oyster settlement, growth, and survival. The footprint of the Oyster Castle reefs will be 3,240 ft2 (301 m2). The substrates should not entrap protected species, as no large (> 2”) gaps should exist in these substrates. Furthermore, these substrates should not be comprised of petroleum products (e.g., creosote or asphalt materials).

Oyster Catcher Mats are to be made of jute erosion control cloth and coir fiber cloths that have approximately 1cm spacing between the fibers that are impregnated with Portland cement. The Mats are to be 44 inches L, 32 inches W, and approximately 1.25 inches thick with a slight corrugation with 2.5 inches separating corrugated peaks. The Mats are to be capable of holding at least 350 lbs over a 3x2ft reef footprint centered on the Mat. Mats should weigh approximately 12-15 lbs dry and stack easily for efficient and inexpensive transportation.

Oyster Castle Blocks and Oyster Reef Mats will be provided at the Material Collection Location and

Contractor is not responsible for the purchase of the Blocks or Mats.

3. Payment Payment will be made as the work proceeds, after presentation of paid invoices or documentation of direct costs by the contractor showing specific mobilization and demobilization costs and supporting evidence of the charges of suppliers, subcontractors, and others. When the total of such payments is less than the lump sum contract price, the balance remaining will be included in the final contract payment.

Payment of the lump sum contract price for transportation and delivery will constitute full compensation for completion of the work.

Payment will not be made under this item for the purchase costs of materials having a residual value, the purchase costs of materials to be incorporated in the project, or the purchase costs of operating supplies.
