About this file

This document is a Memorandum of Record detailing the known locations of asbestos onboard the NOAA Ship Oregon II as of March 15, 2023. During the dry-dock repair period in FY22, multiple areas containing asbestos were discovered, including the galley wall panels (which were fully removed), the fan room's forward bulkhead with a mixture of fiberglass and asbestos insulation (partially removed), bridge wall panels (labeled to prevent disturbance), and the engine room overhead with asbestos-containing sheets. Specific remediated areas in the engine room include spaces over the engineering operating station, tool cage, air compressors, main engine, switchboard, and starboard work bench.

Three companies were involved with the remediation and testing: American Pollution Control Corporation from West Iberia, LA; Aqua One Professional Solutions and Services from Nederland, TX; and Micro-Methods Laboratory, Inc. from Ocean Springs, MS. The memorandum emphasizes that while this list represents known asbestos locations as of March 2023, it should not be considered a comprehensive inventory of all potential asbestos-containing areas on the vessel.
