Optical Parametric Oscillator

The Naval Research Laboratory has need for an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) for use with a Ti:sapphire pulsed laser (80MHz rep rate)

Optical Parametric Oscillator Requirements

For the following, assume that the system is being pumped with a 1.3 W Ti:sapphire laser.

1) The OPO should have tunable output of at least the following:

a. 1000 to 1600nm (‘IR’)

b. 505 to 740nm (‘Visible’)

c. 1750 to 4000nm (‘Idler’)

2) The wavelength tuning of the OPO should be automated and computer controlled.

3) Typical pulse width should be ~200 fs for a 130 fs pump pulse.

4) Typical time-bandwidth product of ~.6

5) M^2 < 1.2 (excepting idler)

6) Output power.

a. IR output power > 250 mW at 1100nm with 800nm pump.

b. VIS output power > 150 mw at 600nm with 800nm pump.

7) The IR and Visible output should be either horizontally or vertically polarized.

8) Noise < 0.5% (measured RMS in a 10 Hz to 1 MHz bandwidth)

9) Repetition rate matched and synchronized to pump.

10) For optimal mode quality and power, the visible output must be generated by means of intracavity doubling of the IR OPO signal beam.

11) The OPO should be of such a design to allow for independent tuning of Ti:sapphire input and the visible output. The OPO should be able to accept at least a 100nm range of the TI:sapphire’s output between 720nm and 900nm (e.g. 740nm to 840nm), and over that entire range, have tunable output in the visible that spans at least 100nm.

12) For at least one given pump wavelength of the Ti:sapphire oscillator, the OPO should be tunable from at least 520nm to 700nm

13) The OPO should be field upgradable to operate in picosecond mode when paired with an appropriate laser.

14) The OPO should include an integrated spectrometer.

15) The OPO should come with a computer loaded with the necessary control software.

16) The OPO should come with pump alignment optics, including a 50-50 beam splitter.
