MEMORANDUM FOR MICC S2P2 Office

SUBJECT: Brand Name Letter for US Army Marksmanship Unit, FedBid Buy #950779_02

1. The United States Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) is requesting the approval for the brand name procurement of a Mattarelli Olympic bunker traps. The USAMU Shotgun team has a dedicated Shotgun range that currently is operated by this brand of machinery. Buying any other brand of machinery would cost about a $1M dollars to operate as the Army would have to re-engineer every single bunker from wiring to computers. It would also alter the current bunker configuration by replace the machine stands and raise the roof of the bunker to accompany other machine brand. With the Olympics approaching in about a year and a half, this range on Fort Benning is host to selection matches and World Cups for selection to the Olympic games; not approving this brand justification will have a profound impact to not only the USAMU but to Fort Benning and the US Army as it will lose an opportunity to showcase a great event to the American people and potential recruits to the US Army.

2. The USAMU’s Shotgun team and target maintenance personnel have made contact with many different vendors through various trade shows, internet research and visiting shotgun complexes around the world. They are continually conducting market research on machinery and techniques that will provide them with the ability to meet the unit’s mission of compete and win.

3. For the reasons listed above, the USAMU request that a brand name purchase of a Mattarelli Olympic bunker traps.

4. If there are any questions, please contact Jackerland Richardson at 706-545-1622 or jackerland.richardson.civ@mail.mil or the undersigned at 706-545-6698 or email at hiram.j.rodriguez.civ@mail.mil.
