About this file

This document is a draft notice for a new NASA Research Announcement (NRA) program element titled "D.19 Habitable Worlds Observatory System Technology Demonstrations and Mission Architecture Studies (HWOTAS)" as part of the ROSES-2024 solicitation.

The draft notice invites industry-led proposals to carry out system-level critical technology demonstrations to increase Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and/or mission architecture studies to advance Concept Maturity Levels (CMLs) for the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO). The technology demonstrations are expected to close crucial technology gaps, inform architecture trades, retire project risks, and/or decrease costs. The mission architecture studies are expected to assess the benefits, sensitivities, and risks of NASA-provided HWO mission concepts. Successful proposals will result in firm-fixed-price, incrementally funded contracts. Comments and questions on the draft text are due by October 23, 2024 to the specified NASA point of contact. The draft text will be posted to the NASA NSPIRES website on or about October 9, 2024.

Text version

When it is solicited, D.19 Habitable Worlds Observatory System Technology Demonstrations and Mission Architecture Studies (HWOTAS) will seek industry-led proposals to carry out (1) system-level critical technology demonstrations for ultra-stable observatories and/or (2) mission architecture studies for system-level ultra-stable observatory approaches for the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO).

The solicited system-level technology demonstrations are expected to increase the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) to close crucial technology gaps and to inform architecture trades, retire or mitigate project risks, and/or decrease fabrication lead times and overall cost in implementing technologies necessary for HWO.

The solicited mission architecture studies are expected to advance HWO’s Concept Maturity Levels (CMLs) by assessing the benefits, sensitivities, and risks of NASA-provided HWO mission architecture concepts and associated parameter studies that are currently under consideration

Successful responses to this program element will result in firm-fixed-price contracts incrementally funded through milestone payments.

ROSES-2024 Amendment 58 releases DRAFT text for D.19 HWOTAS. This draft text is designated NNH25ZDA003J for SAM release. Comments and questions concerning this draft are due by October 23, 2024, to Julie.a.crooke@nasa.gov.
