Questions must be submitted by the deadline specified in the Topic Announcement to be included in a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document posted on SAM.gov. NSF notes that not all submitted questions will necessarily receive direct answers.
The template requires submitters to provide Point of Contact information including name, organization/affiliation, and email address. Submitters must identify the related topic (if applicable), referenced document, and specific sections of the document their question concerns. The template includes eleven predefined question categories: Overall initiative objectives, Proposal submission and review, Team eligibility and set-up, Organizational structure and autonomy, Partnerships collaborations and teaming, Budgets funding other costs and fees, OT agreements and compliance, Intellectual property (IP) ownership and management, Structure phases and milestones, Scope and technology topics, and Accountability and impact. An "Other" category is available for questions outside these categories, with space for specification. The template provides a designated area for the actual question(s) to be submitted.
