Statement of Work

ATD Calibration Tower Communication and Electrical

Overview

The NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) is developing the Advanced Technology

Demonstrator (ATD), a state-of-the-art phased array radar to be installed at the National Weather

Radar Testbed facility at 1313 Halley Circle, Norman, Oklahoma. In order to characterize and calibrate this radar, a 150-foot tower will be installed north of the radar site at a distance of approximately 1370 feet. Figure 1 shows the location of the radar, the calibration tower, and the radar control center (RCC). Figure 2 shows the layout of the calibration tower and associated equipment shelter. This Statement of Work (SOW) describes the work required for installation of fiber-optic communications lines between the radar and tower and electrical connections for the calibration tower shelter.

This work should be completed prior to October 1, 2018.

Notes

• All applicable national and local codes shall be followed. NSSL-provided drawings and descriptions are intended to communicate NSSL's need and may require modification. It is the contractor's responsibility to ensure that codes are followed in the final configuration.

• Except where noted, contractor shall supply properly rated wire, conduits, junction boxes, and terminations associated with these requirements.

• Calibration tower equipment shelter will be equipped with power panel, breakers and outlets. The contractor shall provide appropriate meter and wiring to the power transformer outside the shelter provided by Oklahoma University the land owner.

• All fiber-optic lines shall be terminated, characterized and documented.

Tasks

1. Contractor shall provide a meter and connect electrical panel inside the shelter to a supply transformer outside. Power requirement is estimated at 110/220V, 60 Amps, single phase.

Supply transformer and connection to the main source will be provided by the Oklahoma

University's electrical contractor, details will be provided later.

2. Contractor shall provide optical fiber connection between the calibration tower and the

ATD radar site. A 12 single-mode (1550 nm) fiber cable shall be installed between a rackmount patch panel in the equipment shelter and a patch panel in the communication rack located on the second floor of the ATD radar building. The cable shall be buried in a

4" conduit. Contractor is responsible for code compliance, trenching, installation and all required permits. Fiber connections shall be identified, measured and documented.

3. Contractor shall replace the existing 12 multi-mode fiber cable between the ATD radar building and the Radar Control Center (Figure 1) with the same type of 12 single-mode fiber cable mentioned above. These connections must also be identified, measured and documented. All connection to the NSSL's network and internal and external users are routed through the Radar Control Center.
