Goals: The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail (NHT) is working to increase public interpretation opportunities and increase public awareness of the natural resources along the trail. The 2019 Lewis and Clark NHT Long-Range interpretive plan calls for "theme-based traveling exhibit" to increase opportunities and awareness of the Lewis and Clark NHT. The Goal of this project is to develop a theme based exhibit. The objectives are to work with numerous partner sites to display the exhibits along the trail and increase public interpretation and increase the visitor experience.
PP: The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail is working to increase interpretation opportunities and public awareness of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail sites along the 3,700 mile Trail. Work in partnership with partner sites to help tell the Lewis and Clark story through exhibits, while focusing on the natural resources that are related to the story and the trail today. The exhibits will help tell the special connections to the Lewis and Clark story and the natural resources along the trail.
Overview: The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail (NHT)is working to increase interpretation and public awareness of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail sites. The Lewis and Clark NHT works with over one hundred different partner sites along the 3,700 mile trail. Alex Wiles Photography has taken photos of wildlife species that are native and present along the Missouri River and many of them have a Lewis and Clark connection.
Recipient: Alex Wiles Photography
Sub Involv: - Provide guidance on the exhibit types, exhibit information and designs needed to interpret the Lewis and Clark NHT.

- Assist sites with promotion and technical assistance of the exhibit.

- Coordinate exhibit locations, delivery, and site placement.

- Assist with Lewis and Clark Interpretation and connection to the photographs.

Justification: Unsolicited Proposal:LECL was approached by Alex Wiles about his unique photography and exhibits highlighting the natural resources along the Missouri River and Lewis and Clark NHT. At the time Alex already established an exhibit with his photography at Fontenelle Forest, a LECL trail partner site. Alex informed us that he was also working on doing additional sites along the Lewis and Clark NHT. One of those sites was also the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Sioux City, IA. Alex Wiles prepared all his exhibits without government involvement. It was a unique idea to have Alex Wiles create multiple exhibits that could travel the Missouri River portion of the trail. This concept was innovative and not part of anything planned. LECL staff believed it would be advantageous for LECL to work with Alex after we were presented his photographs and presented his exhibits.

Unique Qualifications: Alex Wiles has been able to capture a very unique glimpse into the world of the Missouri River floodplain with what is called high-key photography. The extremely unique photographs produce something artistic and scientific, giving due recognition to the charismatic aquatic life that people rarely see.
