• Room Thermostats and/or Sensors are to be installed on an interior wall, unless otherwise requested or approved by the DOC/ECS Project Manager. Typical code requirements for the installation must be adhered to.

• Gas Piping must be sloped toward the source and hard piped to the factory installed gas control

• Gas Piping must include a manual means of shut off or a “gas cock”, union and 3” Minimum length drip leg constructed of piping the same size or greater as that which enters the appliance

• The gas cock must be installed upstream or in a manner which provides fuel shut off and service access to the union, drip leg, and appliance for service and/or removal or replacement

• 80% class appliance installations must include double walled flues and connectors for venting

• Filtration must be external to the appliance and easily accessible, within a properly sealed filter rack/track or tray.

ROOFING PROTECTION:

• The contractor will be responsible for laying 1 inch foam and minimum ¾ inch plyboard on the roof in all work areas. The foam will contact the roof membrane. The plyboard will rest on top of the foam.

Ducting:

• Clean all sound attenuators/traps prior to installing new ducting.

• DP make notes for all existing ducting to be cleaned internally. The cleaning process must not make a mess on desk or floors or inmate areas.

CONDUIT:

This will be the requirement regardless of existing conduit installations and/or conditions.

1. All conduit past the main control must be rigid. This would apply to all inmate housing units, all inmate mass gathering locations inside the fence. Hallways between buildings would also have to meet this requirement.

2. All conduit must be strapped with a double hole strap within 18" of connection to a device and every 2' between the two end connections.

3. No knockout boxes should be used in any area inside the fence of the facility.

4. Proper sized boxes should be used- Junction boxes mounted on top of Junction boxes to create a deeper raceway will not be accepted. Same for oversized boxes. “Overkill” boxes will not be accepted.

5. All straps must be properly sized and securely fastened to the ceiling with stainless steel tamperproof screws.

6. All conduit must be secured to eliminate gaps between the conduit and walls or ceilings.

7. Above 18' can be EMT conduit. Except where there is inmate access. Admin area and outside of the fence.

8. In non-inmate access areas of the Administration Building only conduit above a suspended ceiling can be EMT.

1. EMT requirements only for Fire alarm systems

2. HVAC Controls can be plenum rated cable

9. Conduit running on beams with conduit running down the beam-beam clamps or fasteners should be within 18" of all devices and a maximum of 5' apart if beam clamps or used or a maximum of 2' apart if double straps are used.

10. Conduit running across beam to beam- If beams are 5' or less apart fasten at every other beam. If beams are greater than 5' apart fasten at every beam. Housing Units cannot run across beams, must run with the beams.

11. Flexible conduit- should not be greater than 2’ in length and shall not be used in any inmate’s access area (housing units, kitchens, dining halls, areas of mass gathering such as education, chapels, medical, visitation, barber shops, Counselor offices, security offices.)

12. All wall penetrations must be made into proper junction boxes or LBs, all wall penetrations must be sealed properly. (Fire caulk, caulk, or concrete sealer).

13. HVAC sensors placed in a suspended ceiling must have a plate above panel that runs from beam to beam, or up to hard structure for fastening.

14. GDC requirement 2-hole straps with security/tamper resistant screws.

15. LBs and LB pull boxes should be used to allow for pulling of wires and cable. Y’s will not be used in any GDC security applications (MEP, CCTV, Locking Controls, PDS, Fire Alarm or power for these systems). LB’s must have security/tamper resistant screws.

16. Conduit cannot be installed on roofs without prior approval of project manager. When approved by project manager, all steps must be approved to keep roof warranty in place. For, Security applications (CCTV, Locking Controls, PDS, Fire Alarm or power for these systems), if roof conduit is approved, it will be used only on the most direct route to the outside of the building and placed on support systems. This should only be done if there is not other means of getting to outer sides of building, because all of this must be removed and reinstalled every time the roof is replaced.

Rental Equipment:

• All projects will have equipment rental included for bid purposes by the contractor. Structural analysis by the DP may be needed if the rental units will have to be placed on the roof. All Boilers should have redundant systems specified if the entire boiler plant is specified to be reconditioned. This includes rental equipment for HVAC, Boilers, and domestic water heaters.
