About this file

This Special Notice is a Notice of Intent to Sole Source for TUG Robots, issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Alabama Veterans Health Care. The document indicates the government intends to enter a sole-source procurement with ST Engineering Aethon, Inc. to replace existing Aethon robots at the Atlanta VA Healthcare system's Pathology and Laboratory Service. The current TUG robots are at end-of-life and require replacement with new models from the same manufacturer.

The solicitation (Number 36C24726Q0211) has a response deadline of January 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Interested parties can submit their capabilities and interest via email to Monica.Reed@va.gov. The government emphasizes that this is not a competitive solicitation, and any communications will be used solely to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The sole-source justification is based on Aethon, Inc. being the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and the only company that manufactures, sells, distributes, and supports the TUG robot system, with proprietary technician training, parts, and software.

DESCRIPTION

Notice of Intent to Sole Source

Pursuant to 41 U.S.C. § 3304(a)(1) and FAR 8.405-6, the Government anticipates entering into sole-source procurement with ST Engineering Aethon, Inc. to provide replacement of the Aethon robots currently in use at the Atlanta VA Healthcare system, Pathology and Laboratory Service, 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. The Aethon, Inc. TUG robots already in place at the facility are at their end of life and need to be replaced with the current models manufactured by Aethon, Inc. and to remain covered under the annual maintenance service plan put in place. Technician training, parts, and software required to maintain and operate these machines are all proprietary and Aethon Inc.’s mobile robots are of its kind purposely built to work in hospitals worldwide. As the OEM, ST Engineering Aethon, Inc. is the only company that manufactures, sells, distributes and supports the Aethon TUG robot system.

The above-cited authority and associated justification is made based on the determination that Government’s requirements for this contract can only be satisfied by one source with unique capabilities.

Any other business or person may identify their interest and capability in fulfilling this requirement by responding to this Notice by e-mail to Monica.Reed@va.gov no later than 10:00 a.m. ET Thursday, January 15, 2026.

This Notice of Intent is not a request for competitive quotes/proposals; however, all communications received by the deadline will be considered by the Government. Information received as a result of this Notice will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. A determination by the Government not to open this requirement to competition is solely within the discretion of the Government. No solicitation document is available at this time.
