About this file
This is a Special Notice of intent to procure scientific equipment on a sole source basis issued by NOAA's Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center. The agency intends to purchase one KingFisher Flex Purification System with 96 Deep-well Head (Catalog Number 5400630) from Life Technologies, a subsidiary of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This automated DNA extraction instrument processes 24-96 samples per run and is critical for eDNA laboratory work supporting multiple research projects, providing improved efficiency and reduced labor costs through automation of DNA extraction and bead cleaning.
The equipment specifications include >95% particle collection efficiency, 96-sample capacity, processing volumes of 50-1000 μL, heating temperature range from +5°C above ambient to +115°C, and dimensions of 26.8" x 23.6" x 15" weighing 62 pounds. The government plans a firm-fixed-price purchase order with delivery by July 31, 2025, using FAR Parts 12 and 13 for commercial item simplified acquisition procedures. The procurement falls under NAICS code 334516 with a 1000-employee size standard. While this is not a competitive solicitation, interested firms believing they can meet requirements may submit substantiating documentation to the contracting officer at andrew.choy@noaa.gov no later than July 14, 2025, for evaluation to determine whether competitive procurement should be conducted.
