BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
Cooperative Agreement Number P16AC01430 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), and Sultana Education Foundation (SEF) for the purpose of creating a shared presence for visitors at the Sultana Education Center in Chestertown, Maryland.
Unless otherwise specified herein, the terms and conditions as stated in the Cooperative Agreement will apply to this Task Agreement.
Project Title: 2017/2018 CAJO Contact Point, Program and Training Initiative
Project Description: In 2016 the NPS Chesapeake Bay Office (CHBA), managers of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail (CAJO), entered into a Cooperative Agreement with the non-profit Sultana Education Foundation to co-brand and manage its Sultana Education Center as a CAJO Visitor Contact Station. Since the inauguration of CAJO, the NPS Chesapeake and SEF have a continuing partnership related to the CAJO with numerous projects completed to enhance visitor’s CAJO experience. In the fall of 2016, SEF opened a new 9,000 square-foot Education Center which serves as their base of operations for expanding trail-related K-12 educational and public programming. The SEF and NPS Chesapeake are working to develop SEF’s new Education Center in Chestertown, Maryland as an official CAJO contact facility. This project will fund the next phase of SEF’s work needed to (1) establish the Sultana Education Center as an official visitor contact point for CAJO, (2) develop curriculum and programs for K-12 students related to CAJO, and (3) develop public programs related to CAJO.
