STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)
FOR
USCG STATION CHICAGO IL.
NW SEWAGE LIFT STATION TROUBLESHOOT/REPAIR
May 4, 2023
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 BACKGROUND
The USCG Station Chicago sewage lift station (RPUID 11516, Equipment # 2095112) was installed in 20011. The lift station handles sewage for both the boat maintance facility and the main station building including the galley and crew berthing.
The lift station consists of a 3 ft wide x 14 ft deep fiberglass basin, two submersible sewage pumps, various associated controls, valves, piping, and accessories.
The lift station has suffered multiple casualties. Known problems include:
• Both discharge pumps are no longer working in automatic or manual. The pumps do not run when switched to manual.
• There is also a pipe “T” connection that is blocking one of the pumps that needs to be removed.
• The pumps do not function in automatic, and the high level alarm does not function.
The lift station is located near the SE sided of the station Chicago Gate, so coordination with Coast Guard Activities will be required.
1.2 SCOPE
Execute emergency repairs to restore pumping capability to the lift station:
This includes:
• Troubleshoot and repair or replace the pumps, components, and piping as necessary to make the pumps functional again.
• Troubleshoot and repair the float switches so that the pumps work in automatic and manual, and the high level alarm works.
• Replace piping and fittings, isolation valves, and check-valves, as necessary to eliminate interferances with inspecting and replacing pumps in the future.
• Reconfigure the pipes if necessary and install hangers as required in order to adequately support the piping.
The sewage lift station is a PERMIT-REQUIRED CONFINED SPACE. In order to complete the work, contractor personnel will have to access the confined space.
