About this file

This document contains a Statement of Work and related federal contract opportunity notice. The Statement of Work outlines requirements for three nuclear magnetic resonance radiofrequency probes to be provided to the Physical Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The probes must support magnetic field strengths from 0.065T to 9.4T, multinuclear detection, and augmentation of gradient waveforms. Three probes are required, including a 3T 1H/X/Lock probe, a 0.55T 1H/X/Lock probe, and a 3T microimaging probe. The opportunity notice seeks capability statements from interested vendors by January 16, 2024 regarding their ability to provide the probes. Responses should include product specifications, manufacturing details, typical lead times, and any other relevant information. The contracting officer is Angela Hitt at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

TITLE: NMR RF Probe Suite Requesting Lab/Division/Group: Physical Measurement Laboratory, 686.08

General Statement of Need The Magnetic Imaging Group is requesting a set of three NMR RF probes to improve its ability to provide measurements to the medical imaging community. These probes would provide improved capabilities including multinuclear capabilities as well as integration with external gradient coils to provide larger fields and better gradient linearity. At present existing NMR RF probes in the Magnetic Imaging Group cannot use external gradient fields and therefore limit the level of measurements that can be offered to customers.

Background Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging require precise control of the radiofrequency (RF) pulses as well as their gradient waveforms to accurate measure biomarkers such as T1, T2, diffusion of materials. As the needs for the medical community continue to develop, there are needs beyond currently available equipment in the Magnetic Imaging Group.

Recent trends in the medical imaging community as well as developments at NIST require NMR RF probes capable of experiments that range from 0.065 T to 9.4T in magnetic field strength, multinuclear decoupling and detection, and augementation of gradient waveforms to better serve the needs of our customers. To this end, the Magnetic Imaging Group would like to acquire new NMR RF probes capable of providing these measurements. This project would provide new magnetic field measurements to customers as well as provide a platform to improve sample handling and measurement. These additions would bring improved measurement capabilities to the Magnetic Imaging Group and provide provide flexibility for future work.

Objective(s) This project is designed to add three new NMR RF probes to the existing set of NMR probes owned by the Magnetic Imaging Group. Thse probes allow for additional flexibility unavailable in the existing probes such as non-proton isotopes and compatibility with external gradient systems. These new capabilities will enchance the work of our group to the NIST mission of providing quantitative and precise measurements for medical imaging.

Scope/General Requirements In acquiring a suite for NMR RF probes, the Magnetic Imaging Group will enhance the capabilities of services provided to the medical imaging community. These probes will improve the measurements by reducing uncertainty in diffusion measurements, allow for additional isotopes and field strengths to be measured, and allow for development of new sample methods

Statement of Work: NMR RF Probe Suite 2 minimizing sample handling and stress during measurements.
