Attachment Number 1 – Statement of Work IFB – NIHCL2011096R – Replacement Linens National Institutes of Health (NIH) Housekeeping & Fabric Care (HFCD) Statement of Work for the Linen Requirement April 8, 2011

BACKGROUND

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center (CC) is a 234-bed research hospital located in Bethesda, Maryland. It serves as the nation’s premier research hospital for conducting clinical research to improve the health of mankind. It also serves as a national resource for clinical research by developing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, enhancing systems to ensure the safe, efficient, and ethical conduct of clinical research, training clinical researchers, and leading the response to the nation’s public health needs. The CC admits patients from around the country and the world who participate in experimental treatments and studies.

In 2005, the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center (CRC) was opened. The state of the art facility is home to the new inpatient units, day hospitals and research labs and connects to the existing Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center, which opened its doors to patients in 1953. Together, the Magnuson and Hatfield centers form the NIH Clinical Center, the world’s largest clinical research complex, serving a dual role: providing humane and healing patient care, and an environment for clinical researchers to advance clinical science.

The Housekeeping and Fabric Care Department (HFCD) of the CC is responsible for maintaining the hospital facility at the highest level of cleanliness. This includes the patient areas, laboratories, offices, public areas, exhibits and other surroundings, support and common areas. To assist in accomplishing these tasks, the HFCD has employed the use of many specialized vendors. This announcement is another request for specialized assistance.

A company is needed to provide linen for the clinical care. Linen shall be purchased throughout the year, usually monthly, to replace worn and missing linen. This linen includes bed linens, patient wear, scrub uniforms and various other items that are needed in the care of patients. A complete list is attached with the salient characteristics of each item. There are 72 items which the CC may purchase.

All linen purchased shall be kaumographed with the stamp of the Clinical Center for identification purposes. Orders for linen will be placed and delivery shall be made within two weeks (14 days) of the date of the order.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the award is to have an ample supply of linens to be able to provide excellent patient care and meet the research need of the Clinical Center and the Safra Family Lodge.

PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

The period of performance shall be for a base period of twelve (12) months with four (4) option periods of 12 months each. The period of performance will be established at the time of award.

DELIVERY

All deliveries shall be made to the Housekeeping & Fabric Care Department, Clinical Center Building 10, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892 through the B2 East Loading Dock to Room B1N313. All items shall be packaged as stated in the Salient Characteristics.
